This year, the Indian Premier League (IPL) was full of dramas and twists, and finally, the title going back to its victorious owners – the Mumbai Indians. The 2017 event was the 10th season of the tournament, running between April 5th and May 21st, and it truly lived up to the expectation level set by previous IPL editions with some close encounters and stupendous individual performances.

Final Match Winner Scorecard

Mumbai Indians: 129/8 (20 overs)
Rising Pune Supergiant: 128/6 (20 overs)

The grand finale of the league unfolded, as in one last rivalry match on May 21 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the Mumbai Indians rose to the occasion against all odds under the esteemed captaincy of Rohit Sharma against the Rising Pune Supergiant. Having batted first, Mumbai put up only 130 runs while Krunal Pandya mustered the highest individual score of 47 runs off 38 deliveries. To this, Rising Pune Supergiant responded by falling just short of the target as they scored 128 runs on the board, despite the opposition batsmen trying their level best to bowl them out. A good innings from Krunal Pandya and a decent spell with the ball that claimed 3/25 earned him the Man of the Match award. This win was historic for the Mumbai Indians as it was for the first time that any team had won the IPL title thrice.

Man of the Match: Krunal Pandya

2017 IPL Winner - Mumbai Indians

His all-round performance became the turning point in the final. He not only added a vital 47 runs with the bat but also returned bowling figures of 3/25, which put the brakes on Rising Pune Supergiant’s innings when it mattered most. And his impactful performance earned him the well-deserved Man of the Match award, cementing his place as a key player for Mumbai in the team’s victorious campaign.

Purple Cap:

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the “swing maestro” from Sunrisers Hyderabad, made history in season two by becoming the first player to win the Purple Cap for two consecutive years. His extraordinary display of bowling throughout the tournament fetched him 26 wickets in just 14 matches at a strike rate of 14. His consistency and knack of picking up wickets can clearly be seen with his spell of taking 5 wickets versus Kings XI Punjab, conceding only 19 runs. A man-of-the-match performance further firmly established his credentials as one of the premier fast bowlers in IPL.

Orange Cap:

If Bhuvneshwar Kumar dominated with the ball, the Orange Cap list was populated by explosive Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman David Warner. David Warner made the most runs in just about every match of the tournament, which further increased when playing a full season of matches. He was aggressive in his approach and the linchpin for his team to qualify to the play-offs at the top of the order. He has been one of, if not the best batsmen of the 2017 IPL season going just by performances alone.

Prize money:

Other than the glory and bragging rights, the IPL is significantly financially rewarding to the teams that participate. The Mumbai Indians were awarded a whopping sum of 20 crores in prize money for being champions. This surely was a sum fitting for rewarding their consistency throughout the season.
